Google Preferred Sources: What they are and how to set them up

When searching for something in Google, you often receive dozens of search results, an AI summary, and possibly some sponsored results as well.

In 2025, Google launched a new tool called “Preferred Sources”. The goal of this tool is to give you more control over what results you see first. You can now personalize your Google settings to let Google know what sources you most want to see results from.

What is a “Google Preferred Source”?

A preferred source is something that tells Google what news sources are most important to you. Once you choose your sources, you are more likely to see stories from those sources featured in your Google search results.

According to a blog post from Google, “When you select your preferred sources, you’ll start to see more of their articles prominently displayed within Top Stories, when those sources have published fresh and relevant content for your search.”
